Constructed in 1908, this single-story red brick building was originally used to build and warehouse threshing machines before later being re-purposed to accommodate lumber sawmill manufacturing. One century later, its renovation ignited redevelopment of the north end of the Historic Haymarket by adding an entire city block and solidifying a corner of the city once considered to be too far outside the core of downtown Lincoln. The building was completely updated and modernized in 2008 to include a contemporary dock, awnings, and storefront glass, and is now one of only a few buildings in Lincoln awarded the LEED Silver designation. Following its renovation, the “The Sawmill Building” name was chosen to honor the building’s history.
